1.16.24 – Negotiations Update #46: Bargaining Update
Tuesday, January 16, 2024
On November 20th, APFA submitted a request to the National Mediation Board (NMB) to be released into 30-day cooling-off period. The NMB did not approve our request and ordered the parties to continue mediated talks.
APFA and American Airlines management met in Federal mediation in December and again last week in DFW on January 9th to 11th. At these sessions, American Airlines management had every opportunity to present another economic proposal. They did not. Instead, they have chosen to cling to their rigid economic framework that does not address our current economic needs.
This is simply unacceptable. The Railway Labor Act gives airline employees the right to strike following a period of mandatory meditation. APFA will be approaching the National Mediation Board this week to reiterate our request to be released into a thirty-day cooling off period. We will provide more details once our request has been submitted.
We have no illusions that getting released to strike will be a simple task–the last air carrier released to strike was in 2010. But we also know that American Airlines Flight Attendants are unified and willing to fight to get the contract we deserve. We cannot allow management delays and roadblocks to deter us from our mission. We are going to keep up the pressure until we get the contract we deserve.
Continue to wear your red WAR pin, red lanyard, and bag tags until we secure the contract we’ve earned.
