Every year, APFA strives to honor and celebrate the diversity in America. February is Black History Month, a time to honor the achievements, contributions, and resilience of the Black community. Through the struggles, creativity, and cultural richness, we reflect on the ongoing journey toward equality and justice in this country.

Throughout history, Black individuals have made important contributions in various fields, reshaping and redefining culture, science, politics, literature, and a myriad of other areas. From activists like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin, and Malcolm X who fought tirelessly for civil rights and social justice, to artists and musicians like Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and Nina Simone who have used their talents to influence change, the significance of Black pioneers and visionaries resonates across the globe.

Black History Month offers many opportunities to recognize the massive contributions of Black individuals to the field of aviation as well. Despite facing systemic racism and discrimination, many Black aviators have made groundbreaking accomplishments, paving the way for future generations and challenging the barriers of prejudice and discrimination.

As we commemorate Black History Month, let us remember that the struggle for equality and justice is ongoing. It requires unified action, allyship, and a responsibility to dismantling systemic barriers that unjustly affect the Black communities.
