Later that evening, the 28th Annual Awards and Recognition Event honored retired Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR-4). Throughout his 36 years in Congress, Peter DeFazio exemplified an unparalleled commitment to helping Flight Attendants while demonstrating tough oversight on safety. His leadership as Chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee was instrumental in shaping policies that prioritize our welfare, including penalties for disruptive passengers and sexual assault, evacuation standards, keeping knives off planes, the 10-hour minimum Flight Attendant rest requirement, and the three passages of the Payroll Support Program.
