4.11.24 – Call to Action! No More Stalled Negotiations!

Thursday, April 11, 2024

Action Required!

Over 100,000 Flight Attendants are in drawn-out negotiations across the industry. But without a credible strike threat, airline management is perfectly happy to prolong negotiations for years. There have only been two releases to strike since 2006, compared to dozens of releases in the 1980s and 1990s.

Flight Attendants across the industry have recently returned overwhelming strike authorizations: American at 99.4%, Alaska at 99.4%, Omni at 100%, and Southwest at 98%. But without a credible strike threat, management teams make little movement at the bargaining table. Ongoing disputes strain the resources of the National Mediation Board (NMB), delaying contractual wage and work-rule improvements.

What can you do today?

Using the links below, tell your Representatives in Congress to sign on to a letter that urges the National Mediation Board (NMB) to utilize all provisions of the Railway Labor Act, including “self-help” and workers’ right to strike at the end of a 30-day cooling-off-period. Encourage negotiations for a fair contract for Flight Attendants and other aviation workers. Record profits should equal record contracts.

Take both actions above and tell your friends to do the same.

Phone Script:

“Hi, my name is [your name]. I am a constituent and a Flight Attendant. I am calling to ask my representative to sign on to the bipartisan letter to the National Mediation Board urging the agency to help conclude contract negotiations by making it clear aviation workers have the right to strike. This issue is critical to me and my family. Thank you.”

Click here to see the text of the letter that we want your Congressional Representative to sign. The letter is being led by six members of Congress, and we want all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives to sign on.

  • Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM-1)
  • Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ-1)
  • Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI-2)
  • Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI-6)
  • Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV-4)
  • Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1)

You may recall that Rep. Norcross and Rep. Fitzpatrick recently attended our February Day of Action picketing event. We have APFA members in every Congressional district. It will take all of us CALLING and EMAILING every day over the next couple of weeks to get all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed on!

Thank you for taking action. Stay tuned for more informational events to ensure that this industry-wide battle remains at the forefront of the traveling public and the media.
