Labor Leaders and Workers from Across U.S. Join AA Flight Attendants in Proclaiming ‘Time’s Up, AA!’

It’s time to get a deal, say Flight Attendants, who have been without raises since 2019. Flight Attendants are demanding Congress support their right to strike.

CHICAGO, Illinois – Labor leaders from major Unions across the U.S. will convene in Chicago for the 2024 Labor Notes Conference, a gathering attracting thousands of Activists intent on battling corporate greed and properly valuing America’s workforce.

On April 18, they will support the fight for fairness in the air by joining with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) – the Union representing American Airlines Flight Attendants – as they raise their voices and tell American Airlines Management that times up to get a new Contract to AA Flight Attendants, who have been without a raise since 2019. Flight Attendants are urging Congressional representatives to sign a bipartisan letter to the National Mediation Board, urging the agency to help conclude contract negotiations by making it clear that aviation workers have the right to strike.

WHAT:
Flight Attendant Day of Action, with support from Teachers, Starbucks Baristas, Nurses, Auto Workers, Delivery Drivers, Writers, Bus Drivers, and others represented in the organized Labor movement. Flight Attendants will hold picket signs and chant about the change they need to see. They will make it clear that Congress should support their right to strike!

WHEN:
Thursday, April 18, 2024
1 – 3 p.m.

WHERE:
Chicago O’Hare International Airport, AA Terminal 3, upper level, between T3-T2.

WHO:

Hundreds on the picket line will include AA Flight Attendants, Workers from across the U.S., and Labor Leaders who agree that it’s time American Airlines management gets a contract done that appropriately rewards Flight Attendants for their contributions.

WHY:
Protracted contract negotiations between American Airlines and its Flight Attendants mean that Flight Attendants have not received wage increases since 2019. Many Flight Attendants are struggling to make ends meet, while managers at American have received wage increases and executives have gifted themselves bonuses in the millions. An August 2023 vote by Flight Attendants to authorize a strike produced a 99.47% ‘YES’ vote from APFA members, with 93% participation, and APFA has asked for a release from federal mediation twice. Flight Attendants at American Airlines have made it clear that they are willing to put their livelihoods on the line to secure the improvements they deserve, including increased wages and improved scheduling flexibility.
