5.11.24 – APFA LGA Base Brief – JFK Construction

To All LGA Flight Attendants.

As you may be aware, the construction work happening at JFK Airport and the surrounding roadways is causing difficulties for Flight Attendants, employees, and customers. I have had discussions with the local, regional, and Skyview CAM team just today to address this issue.

If you experience any delays related to the JFK construction after you have arrived at the employee parking lot, please follow these steps to ensure that your Crew Attendance Manager and APFA can support you:

1.  When you realize you will be late for work, contact Crew Scheduling and let them know. If you experience long wait times, stay on hold, or contact the local JFK MOD at 718-487-7882.

To ensure that you are signed-in:

  • Take a snapshot of your sign-in details and check the NS in MobileCCI.
  •  If there is a * next to your name, it means you are successfully signed in.

** This is the only reliable way to confirm your sign-in status.

2.  Once you arrive at the terminal, sign in, regardless of the time you arrive.

3.  Email your Crew Attendance Manager and copy us: [email protected].

Please provide the following information:

  • The time you arrived at the employee parking lot.
  •  If the employee bus was delayed, what was the approximate time you waited and boarded the bus?

* These details are crucial in case the bus is delayed arriving at the terminal. If you made any calls to Crew Scheduling or MOD, please include the timestamps on your phone.

Driving or Public Transportation

If you experience any delays related to the JFK construction, please follow these steps to ensure that your Crew Attendance Manager and APFA can support you:

  • Provide the time you left for the airport.
  • Provide the time you usually expect to be in transit.
  • Provide any relevant documentation that can substantiate your arrival delay to the terminal for sign-in. Please provide any MTA or Highway resources that validate unexpected transit or roadway emergencies, repairs, or delays in general.

** Please be mindful that the Crew Managers will consider the planning for any already communicated road closures or other issues that can delay arriving at the terminal. You are not expected to add an unreasonable amount of time to your commute, but this must be provided when requesting an exemption to be made.

It is important to note that management can verify calls made to all departments within the company, including the local MOD, Crew Scheduling, Flight Ops, and local managers.

I will communicate closely with the Skyview and the local Crew Attendance teams. I will also stay informed about the progress of the construction work and any significant closures that may occur. This will enable us to anticipate the needs of our members and plan accordingly.

Lastly, please give yourself plenty of additional time to leave your home and get to the airport. Regardless of your mode of transportation, you may be impacted as the construction is around the entire airport.

It is important to remember that Facebook is not an appropriate way to communicate problems that could affect your job. As your local base representatives, using our APFA emails is the best way to send us your concerns and any documentation that is pertinent. If you encounter issues beyond your control that could cause you to be late for work, you should contact Crew Scheduling as soon as possible. Your Crew Attendance Managers are responsible for advocating for you, but they can only do so if you use the proper channels to report your issues.
