Negotiations Update #53:
National Mediation Board Schedules Intensive Mediation in Washington, D.C. During the Next Two Weeks
APFA and American Airlines Management concluded three weeks of federal mediation yesterday in DFW. Yesterday afternoon, as our string of negotiation dates ended, the parties were directed to meet at the offices of the National Mediation Board (NMB) in Washington D.C. to continue the bargaining immediately prior to and following Memorial Day weekend.
We welcome this development as American Airlines Flight Attendants have been fighting for the contract that we deserve. After months of picketing, protesting, wearing our lanyards and pins, and speaking out, our struggle has gained national attention and the pressure is on to reach a deal.
Over the coming weeks, we still have difficult bargaining to win the contract we deserve. Key economic issues remain open and need to be resolved to conclude these negotiations. We are focused on working through these issues but are also one hundred percent ready to keep fighting as long as it takes to reach a deal.
Whatever it takes.
The support and solidarity of our Flight Attendant group sends us into bargaining knowing we have 27,000+ standing with us. Knowing we have an army of Flight Attendants wearing lanyards and pins, following the bargaining, and showing up on the picket lines matters more than you know.
We also are not in this fight alone. Working with AFA, TWU, and other Unions, we have raised the profile of our common struggles and our right to strike. Over one hundred seventy-five members of Congress signed a letter backing our right to strike. This is an industry-wide struggle for all Flight Attendants.
Next week, we will provide an update on the status of bargaining and developments over the past weeks.
Now more than ever, we need to keep the pressure up. Our next picketing is the Flight Attendant Worldwide Day of Action scheduled for Thursday, June 13th, 2024.
Continue to wear your red WAR pin, red lanyard, and bag tags until we secure the contract we’ve earned.
In Solidarity,
Your APFA Negotiating Committee
