Negotiations Update #61
Negotiations Continue Next Week
This week, we continued our struggle for our contract at the National Mediation Board (NMB) offices in Washington, D.C. At the beginning of our mediation session, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su joined our talks with all three NMB members. Throughout the week, the Biden administration stayed in contact regarding our negotiations.
During this week of negotiations, we made progress on certain important economic items but are still apart on the final key economic areas of the agreement. The NMB has requested that we not discuss particular details of the talks at this time.
The parties have met six out of the last seven weeks, and three of those weeks were in Washington, D.C., at the NMB offices. The NMB will continue mediation next week. We will either reach a tentative agreement, or the NMB will consider issuing a proffer of arbitration and a release into a thirty-day cooling-off period.
