10.14.24 – APFA ORD Base Brief – October 14, 2024
Monday, October 14, 2024
Happy October, Chicago!
With the leaves changing and falling from the trees, fall is truly upon us.
In our last base brief, we referenced the time is here to vote nationally and locally. In no way were we pushing a democratic agenda. We apologize if that was the impression. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Liberal or undecided, please just get out and vote. Vote for the people who will best represent YOUR best interest.
Thank you to all who caught the error in our October 6 brief. Yes, the critical period for attendance is November 27-December 1st. Eligible days for Holiday Pay (CBA.3.K.) include:
- Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
- Thanksgiving Day.
- Sunday following Thanksgiving Day.
- Monday following Thanksgiving Day.
APFA Board Meeting
This week, APFA Base Presidents and Vice Presidents will be in Dallas to meet with the National Officers to discuss the state of the union, the recent ratification of the CBA and how to uphold and protect our long-fought CBA moving forward.
While we represent our respective bases, we also look at the union as a whole. We speak with many of you about your issues at base, issues with the company, or suggestions and/or concerns you may have with the union. Chicago is a vocal base, and we appreciate hearing from you. Your input, concerns and experiences are the basis of how we represent Chicago.
Meetings or Phone Calls From Management
If you receive a phone call from your Crew Attendance Manager (CAM) or Crew Manager (CM) and the topic is a meeting, PW (pay withheld) removal, or they are questioning your attendance, do not hesitate to reach out to local APFA or ask the manager to pause the conversation until APFA has been contacted. Sometimes people feel as if they can’t reach out to the union in that moment, but you absolutely can, it is your right. Email or call us, we are here to help you and provide guidance.
APFA Training
Last weekend, ORD APFA hosted a targeted training on the rescheduling language in our CBA. This language remained consistent from our JCBA to the new CBA – which helps people understand the language moving forward. We will notify you of our next ORD training and topics.
Blue Line El Survey
The CTA has released a public survey. It seems they are trying to commit to improved rider experience and service. If you utilize the CTA, feel free to participate and let’s see if your thoughts and experiences will aid in their future planning.

AFA Support
In our contract negotiations, we were able to push American farther in part because we had the support of our fellow Unions. This support is mutual. This week, on October 17th if you are able, please join AFA for an informational picketing event at Willis Tower in downtown Chicago. If you can, go support our Chicago family. They always support us!
