APFA Stands in Solidarity with
UniteHere! Hotel Workers on Strike

Wednesday, October 23, 2024

APFA stands shoulder to shoulder with our union siblings at UNITEHERE! in their courageous fight against corporate greed. As hotel workers across the country strike for fair contracts, livable wages, and dignity on the job, we remain steadfast in our support. Our layover hotels in Boston (BOS) and San Francisco (SFO) are currently affected, and we will not allow the company to force our Flight Attendants to cross picket lines.

What Are Hotel Workers Fighting For?

The hotel workers on strike—including housekeepers, front desk agents, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders, bellhops, and doormen—are demanding fair wages, reasonable workloads, and the reversal of COVID-era cuts. Despite the hotel industry reporting over $100 billion in gross operating profit in 2022, many workers struggle to support their families due to insufficient wages and increased workloads. Staffing levels per occupied room have decreased by 13% from 2019 to 2022, leading to unacceptable working conditions that must be addressed.

Which Hotels Are Affected?

This strike impacts various hotel chains nationwide. While we don’t publicly disclose the names of APFA layover hotels for safety reasons, you can access a list of our contracted hotels in the Hotel section of the APFA webpage (accessible via login). We encourage you to cross-reference that list with the Labor Dispute Map found on FairHotel.org to identify affected hotels and join workers on the picket lines.

Strike Disruptions

Picket lines will be active outside affected hotels 24/7. Guests may encounter limited services, unavailable housekeeping, and closed amenities. APFA fully supports and encourages our Flight Attendants to join picket lines across the country where hotel workers are striking. It’s important to stay informed and support our Union Siblings as they fight for justice.

APFA’s Commitment

If you arrive at your layover hotel and find hotel workers picketing, immediately contact the 24/7 AA Hotel/Limo Desk at 1-800-847-2739. They are responsible for relocating our crews to CBA-compliant hotels where workers are not on strike and must be held accountable. Additionally, please fill out an APFA Hotel and Transportation Feedback Form to document any issues encountered.

Together, we confront corporate greed and advocate for fairness, respect, and justice for all workers. Your participation is vital—whether by joining picket lines or standing firm in solidarity. Thank you for your support.
