11.01.24 – APFA ORD Base Brief – Friday, November 1, 2024
Friday, November 1, 2024
Time is flying by Chicago, and fall is well under way.
Last month, Justin and I were in Dallas for the APFA Fall Board Meeting. APFA is committed to spending your union dollars wisely. We look for ways to save money and cut costs where we can. The Board had very productive conversations and passed some new resolutions. 2024 Fall Board of Directors Meeting Recap
RAP
Let’s RAP. Remember, you can be assigned to RAP A (0200 – 1400) immediately following RAP D (1400 – 0200) as there are no rest requirements following RAPs. The system will attempt to give you 11 hours between RAPs, however since RAP awards/assignments are first based on legalities, this is often not feasible. Crew Scheduling determines the number of Reserves that will be placed on each RAP. If you would prefer to not have 11 hours rest between RAP assignments, you can use the waiver on your ROTA bid.
Safety & Security
APFA Safety & Security will host a virtual Town Hall, Thursday, November 7, 2024. Please join and submit your questions ahead of time. APFA Virtual Safety & Security Town Hall
Daylight Saving Time
Don’t forget Daylight Saving time ends on Sunday, November 3rd. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour!
Calling in Well – Intermittent FMLA
Effective October 21, if you are calling in well in conjunction with intermittent FMLA, you no longer need to call and leave a message. You now submit a form in Comply365 found in the Inflight Admin Requests section of My Forms. It is titled, “Calling in Well: Intermittent FMLA Recode Request.”
To Gummy or Not to Gummy
We all know marijuana usage has been legalized in most states. Thirty-eight states, to be exact. HOWEVER, airlines are governed by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Aviation employees are not allowed to use CBD or THC products. If either shows in your test sample, you will test positive for drugs. That will mean a violation of AA’s Drug and Alcohol policy and a DOT violation. Be mindful of edibles, drinks, and products that may contain CBD.
