Daylight Saving Time Ends at 2 AM
Saturday, November 2, 2024
It’s that time of year again to “Fall Back.” Daylight Saving Time ends in the United States as we set our clocks back to standard time at 2 AM tomorrow morning.
In 1916, during World War I, Germany became the first country to implement Daylight Saving Time. Today, approximately 70 countries observe Daylight Saving Time.
In the United States, Daylight Saving Time began in 1918. However, it is not observed in all fifty states. Hawaii, Arizona (excluding the Navajo Nation), and territories like Puerto Rico and Guam maintain standard time throughout the year.
In 2022, the Sunshine Protection Act passed the Senate through an unusual process called unanimous consent. There was no formal vote, as no U.S. Senator objected to its passage when the bill was introduced.
On March 2, 2023, twelve Senators reintroduced legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. However, the bill needed more support to pass through committees or secure a majority vote in the House or Senate. As of 2024, the future of the Sunshine Protection Act remains uncertain.
Daylight Saving Time will return on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
