11.03.24 – APFA PHX Base Brief – Remembering Tracy Roy D’Ortenzio/December 2024 Staffing and Allocations
Sunday, November 3, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that we share the deeply saddening news of the passing of PHL Flight Attendant Tracy Roy D’Ortenzio, who left us on November 1, 2024, due to a brain aneurysm.
Tracy’s journey as a Flight Attendant began with America West Airlines in November 1987, where she served as a Cross-Utilized Customer Service Representative in Phoenix (PHX). Tracy eventually transferred to Philadelphia (PHL) and fulfilled her lifelong dream of exploring new countries and creating cherished memories.
In her final, remarkable act of kindness, Tracy donated her body to science, knowing it would contribute to essential research that can help others in need.
The joy of her life was undoubtedly her three children. She is survived by her beloved twins, Luca and Ava, and her stepdaughter, Sarah. Tracy also leaves behind her loving sister, Crystal Roy, and her two brothers, Tim and Shott Roy.
For those who wish to express their condolences, you may send cards to the following address, care of Luca, Ava, and Sarah’s father:
Rob D’Ortenzio
257 E. La Vieve Lane
Tempe, AZ 85284
A celebration of Tracy’s remarkable life will be held in the spring of 2025, where we can reflect on the joy she brought to those around her.
December 2024 PHX Staffing and Allocations
Today, APFA Base Representatives had the monthly staffing and allocations call with the Company. Robin Agee and Secorra Flowers represented the PHX base on this call. Here are the details for the December bid month.
December 2024 System Reserve Seniority
Incentive Point and Holiday Pay 2024 – 2025
Reserve Bubble Bidders
If your final status is Reserve when the bid period opens, you will want to back yourself up and be a “bubble bidder” if either of the following applies:
- You selected Lineholder as your preference (default preference if tentative) with the LRD tool, but were unsuccessful.
- You are at the bottom of Reserve status seniority for the bid month.
During the award process if additional Lineholders are needed to cover the remaining open time, reserves will be moved to Lineholder status accordingly:
- If Lineholder was your preference with the LRD tool, you will be awarded in seniority order.
- If you did not select Lineholder with the LRD tool, you will be assigned in reverse seniority order. Because a bubble bidder has the potential to be moved to Lineholder status, it is recommended to create both a Reserve and a Lineholder monthly bid (seven reserve layers and seven Lineholder layers).
During the award process if your status changes to Lineholder, PBS will only use your Lineholder bids to award your line. Any Reserve bids will be ignored. Similarly if your status changes to Lineholder but you do not have a Lineholder monthly bid, PBS will use your Lineholder standing bid (if one exists).
Contacting Management for Company Systems and Policy Questions
If you have questions about PBS, TTS, or any other company systems or policies, please direct your inquiries to PHX Inflight via email or phone at 480-693-2945. Your crew managers are responsible for assisting you.
Management, including your crew managers, should be available to answer Flight Attendant questions about all aspects of our jobs rather than focus on micromanaging and disciplining Flight Attendants with insignificant issues. When management closed the Flight Attendant Bidding and Resource Center, they assured Flight Attendants that help would be available. Please reach out if you need assistance with your bids or any other company policy questions or issues. If you do not receive the help you need, please contact your APFA base leadership.
More Than a Three (3) Hour Delay (After Report)
JCBA Section 10.J.8. – “When a flight departure is delayed for more than three (3) hours, the Flight Attendant who is scheduled for such flight shall not be required to stand by and shall be relieved of duty at her/his request, provided that other Flight Attendants are available to replace her/him without increasing the delay. A Flight Attendant desiring to be released shall remain on duty until the relief Flight Attendant reports for duty. A Flight Attendant exercising this option shall forfeit any pay and credit that may be accumulated under any other Paragraph in Section 10.”
This provision applies at sequence origination only, not mid-sequence. You are not entitled to Call Out pay or pay protection, but you will receive the Duty Rig from report to release. Section 11.D.5. states, “A Flight Attendant shall receive a minimum of one (1) hour of pay and credit for every two (2) hours of actual on-duty time prorated on a minute-by-minute basis of actual on-duty time.”
Example: You are delayed for more than three hours and request to be removed from your sequence. You reported at 1000 and are relieved and released at 1400. Your four hours on duty would generate two hours of pay. Once released, contact Crew Scheduling to ensure your release time is added so pay for the duty day can be added. If the pay is not generated by closeout, submit a Direct Connect.
From the WINGS Foundation: Recycling Update
Have our recycling procedures changed?
To be clear- recycling procedures have not changed. It is still standard service procedure to recycle aluminum cans and Wings Foundation is not advocating for Flight Attendants to stop recycling. Please continue to recycle for the benefit of the environment and trash management onboard the aircraft.
Safe Travels!
