Today is Election Day – Vote!
Tuesday, November 5, 2024
Today is Election Day and your opportunity to make your voice heard. If you need help finding your polling place, visitĀ www.vote.org. Your participation in this election is critical to a thriving Democracy.
Congressional Races
The ballot you cast in this election will affect each of the three branches of our federal government. All 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives and a third of the U.S. Senate are on the ballot.
The decisions that are made in WashingtonĀ directlyĀ affect Flight Attendants, the aviation industry, and the ability for Labor Unions to protect workers across the country. 179 House Representatives and 33 Senators signed the letter to the National Mediation Board (NMB) this summer affirming our right to strike. Find out if your Senators and Representative supported our negotiations:
Our Union has worked with many members of Congress who have supported Flight Attendants by co-sponsoring the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act, the Cabin Air Safety Act, the Air Pump Act, the FAA Reauthorization Bill, and the Payroll Support Program, to name a few. These members of Congress have proven track records of supporting Flight Attendants.
Presidential Race
This election, APFA endorsed Kamala Harris for President. Over the summer, the Biden-Harris Administration intervened in APFA negotiations. Matching Delta wages was insufficient for our Flight Attendants, and our company hid behind a wishful belief that we would never be released to strike. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su and Secretary Pete Buttigieg pressed the company to improve our compensation and work rules. Without the threat of strike and without the support of the Biden-Harris Administration, we likely would be in a different position than we are today.
In 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration also revived and implemented the 10-hour rest regulation. The previous Administration delayed its implementation with the intent to kill it permanently.
As ViceāÆPresident,āÆKamala HarrisāÆhas consistently demonstrated stronger positions on collective bargaining rightsāÆforāÆUnions, womenās rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, economic issues important to working families, and has strongly affirmed the right for workers to strike.
Your vote, your voice, and we encourage every single APFA member to participate in their civic duty today. Thank you for voting in this important election.
