12.23.03 – (LAA) – National Terrorism Threat Level Raised

Hello. Today is Tuesday, December 23, 2003. This is George Price, APFA National Communications Coordinator with an APFA Hotline Update.

The Department of Homeland Security has raised the national terrorism threat level to High Condition or Orange. A High Condition is declared when there is a high risk of terrorist attacks. Flight Attendants are encouraged to be even more vigilant during this heightened level of security. Report any security issues to the Captain, the agent, or the nearest law enforcement personnel. While on layovers, be sure that you travel with members of your crew or ensure that someone on the crew knows where you are at all times. Follow all safety and security procedures to the letter.

Finally, be sure to access the SSI Web site through the Flight Service Web site for the latest security information. More information on the current threat level can be found on the opening page and the Safety page of the APFA Web site.

The Company has informed the APFA that the daily absence cap associated with the Attendance Policy Presidential Grievance Settlement has been exceeded. What this means is that the benefits under the settlement for the test period November 15-January 15 will not be activated for this period. The Company has confirmed, however, that the second phase of the program, which runs from January 16, 2004 through June 30, 2004, will begin as scheduled. From the APFA Scheduling Department: The APFA has been informed by the Company that due to manning issues, VMC positions are not being filled. Flight Attendants are encouraged to review the language in Article 9.L. and Article I.9.L of the Contract, which deals with the order of open time coverage.
