CQ Training Bidding System (TBS)

Flight Attendants will bid and be awarded CQ training in seniority order in TBS. You are eligible to bid for a CQ class in TBS for your base month, grace month or the month prior to your base month (early).

The bidding window for CQ is the 1st through the 6th of the month prior to your training month.  Going to CQ early or in your grace month will not change your base month.

  • CQ Training Bidding Sysyem (TBS) Opens

1st of Month at 1200 CT (DFW Time)

  • CQ Training Bidding Sysyem (TBS) Closes

6th of Month at 1200 CT (DFW Time)

  • CQ Training Bidding Sysyem (TBS) Awarded

7th of Month at 1200 CT (DFW Time)

How to Bid

Step 1

Step 1 - Go to Crew Portal

First, go to crew portal at faportal.aa.com and click on the 'Monthly Bids' tab then 'TBS - CQ Only':

Step 2

Step 2 - The TBS Dashboard

The TBS dashboard looks very similar to your PBS dashboard.  Click on the 'Classes' tab to view available training classes.

Step 3

Step 3 - Select specific classes from the calendar

The class information contains start and end times, as ell as deadheading flight details.  The date of each class are on the calendar to the left.  If you are in a base requiring travel to and from training, the flights will be pre-booked for your travel to training.  Select the class and date you would like to bid by clicking on the date on the calendar.

Step 4

Step 4 - Alternatively, create a generic bid for classes

Alternatively, you have the option of submitting a generic bid for the dates and times you would like to attend training under the 'Preferences' tab.

You may also apply various waivers to your bid, including waivers that allow you to attend on vacation, on a VLOA or waive to FAR minimum rest before training.

Please note:  If you have a Standing Bid and do not wish to attend early, you MUST select the "Do Not Allow Early Award" box.  TBS will read a Standing Bid as a bid for an early award if you do not check this box.  This is a common oversight.

Forgot to Bid?

If you do not bid in TBS, or do not bid enough classes, you will be assigned a training class in your base or grace month. You will not be assigned a training class in an early month.

Your training class will be assigned to you in seniority order with the first available class you are legal for, on the earliest date of the bid month. You will not be able to preference to not attend in your base month and defer to your grace month. If you do not bid to attend CQ in your base month, you will be assigned a class.

Note: The TBS system is for bidding CQ training only.  For all other training including aircarft and service training, you will continue to submit a ballot via the Flight Service Website.

For more information, the TBS training guide is located on jetnet: click for TBS guide

Bids are processed in the following order:

1st: Award - Base Month Bidders
2nd: Award - Grade Month Bidders
3rd: Assign - Grace Month Non-Bidders
4th: Assign - Base Month Non-Bidders
5th: Award - Early Month Bidders

Awards are visible on the 7th at Noon (DFW time). To view your award, go back to the TBS system through Crew Portal and select the 'Award' tab to view your class.

CQ Training for Expired Qualifcations (QI)

If your qualifications have expired because it has been more than 13 months since you last attended CQ or completed initial training, you will be required to complete additional training to regain your qualifications.

  • You will be put in an inactive status with a QI removal code until you successfully complete the required training.
  • Any trips on your schedule will be removed without pay on a trip-by-trip basis.
  • If you are on reserve, you will be removed from any reserve availability days until you complete training. Removal from reserve days of availability will reduce your guarantee by the value of a reserve day.

  • Contact the Training Support Desk to enroll in CQ if you have gone QI

You have NOT attended CQ (or initial) in last 37 to 60 months

  • You will be required to attend a Leave of Absence Requalification Program (LOARP)
  • The class is approximately three (3) weeks long
  • Currently these classes are held approximately every other month

More on Returning from Long-Term Leave

DFW based Flight Attendants:

The company is not contractually required to provide a hotel room for training conducted at FSU (JCBA 29.F.2). However, if you are attending LOARP or ELOARP training AND you live more than 50 miles from DFW, the Training Department will consider requests for hotel rooms on a case-by-case basis.

Please note: per diem for DFW based Flight Attendants is paid for all actual hours in training (JCBA 4.A.4).

Returning from a long-term leave:

If you are attending LOARP or ELOARP training, it is most likely because you are returning from a long-term leave (E.g. IOD or Medical Leave).  JCBA 25.K.6.a contains the contractual provisions for notifying the company of your intent to return to active status as well as the company’s obligations for arranging administrative details and scheduling of your training. Reach out to the APFA Health, IOD and/or Contract Departments if you need assistance with your return to work and scheduling of your requalification training.

How to Read Your HI1/HI2 for Training & Travel

Flight automatically book around the 23rd of the month prior to your class.

Need to Change Your Travel To or From Training?

You have two options for changing your travel. Use the Comply365 form (click for instructions on JetNet) or you can follow the steps below to change your flights through DECS.

Step 1

Step 1 - After logging into DECS, determine your pass class

Traveling to or from your Base, Co-terminal, or Satellite base?
Your pass class will be A1.

Traveling to/ or from your commuter city?
Your pass class will be A3.

Step 2

Step 2 - Delete your current flight

Enter DECS code for deleting the existing flight:
HIGOR/(flt number) / (Date) / FA / (From Station) / (To Station) / (Pass Class - without the 'D') // (Class Number)

Example:

  • Suzie Smith is a LGA-based flight attendant who lives in BNA. She is scheduled to attend CQ class 334 in DFW on January 7th.
  • She originally had a trip that returned to LGA on January 6th and was planning to travel from LGA to DFW on January 7th to attend training.
  • She was able to drop her trip and now wishes to travel on flight 593 from BNA to DFW instead of flight 701 from LGA to DFW.
  • Since BNA is listed in her HI7 (*L) as her designated commuter city, she can make the changes to her flights herself. Since she is traveling from her commuter city, she will need to travel A3D instead of A1D.

First, she needs to cancel her original reservation on flight 701 from LGA to DFW. Remember – her flights between LGA and DFW were automatically booked with her CQ award - so she makes the following entry: HIGOR/701/7JAN/FA/LGA/DFW/A1//334

Step 3

Step 3 - DECS response for Deleted flight

After a correct removal in our example, DECS will respond with: SMITH S DELETED

Step 4

Step 4 - Book new flight with HIGOA

The DECS code for adding a flight is: HIGOA/(flt number) / (Date) / FA / (From Station) / (To Station) / (Pass Class

Continuing with our example, Susie is now ready to re-book herself on flight 593 from BNA to DFW.

She makes the following entry in DECS: HIGOA/593/7JAN/FA/BNA/DFW/A3D

Step 5

Step 5 - DECS response for and added flight

The response from DECS for a correctly added flight in our example will be: SMITH S ADDED

  • Once a question is answered, the page automatically advances to the next question.  To return to a question, click on the question number in the carousel.
  • Exiting an assessment prior to completion results in a new assessment generated upon re-entry until the assessment is completed successfully.
  • Upon answering the final question, a Finish button appears near the bottom middle of the screen.  If the Finish button does not appear, check to see if all questions are answered.
  • Click on the Finish button to score and record the assessment.
  • Some assessments may be taken as many times as necessary to achieve a passing score (designated on the opening page of the assessment).
  • Once exiting an assessment, incorrect answers are no longer accessible for review.
  • If a course requires you to retake an assessment (until passed), a new, random draw of questions generates from the pool.
