COVID-19 Aflac Enrollment Q&A

I am already enrolled in AFLAC, do I need to re-enroll?
No. This option is for Flight Attendants who missed the enrollment for products during the open enrollment period.

I am enrolled in AFLAC and I am on direct deposit through my payroll. Now that flying has been reduced, I'm not sure my payments will be covered. What should I do?
Go to the Documents section of the AFLAC page from the APFA Website and download the SELF-PAY form. Complete and return to the address on the form. Don't forget to cancel your JetNet deductions once you've submitted the self-pay form.

I have opted to take one of the leaves of absence offered by the company. What do I do about my AFLAC?
If you believe that the 19 hours of pay are enough to cover your premiums, then you don't have to do anything. If you believe you will not have enough for the premium payment, then follow the same instructions described above and complete the self-pay form.

I have decided to retire from American but I want to keep my AFLAC policies. Is there anything I need to do?
Yes, you have 30 days to report to AFLAC that you have separated from the company. You need to notify them and complete the necessary forms to PORT YOUR POLICIES. At that point, you will give them the necessary financial information (credit card or bank draft) to cover your premium payments.

I have decided to take the leave or retire completely from AA and I am not sure I will have any insurance. I know that AFLAC is not insurance, only supplemental. I am not sure I will be able to afford the COBRA rates should that become my only option. Are there any other benefits available to me?
Yes, you can sign up for the 24/7 Telemedicine option as it will allow you to have Physician Consultations free of charge without deductibles or co-pays. For less than $6/mo per family (up to 9 members) you have a wealth of options and resources available. Visit www.247APFA.com for more information and to register.

Will AFLAC Open Enrollment still take place in the fall?
Yes, the normal open enrollment period remains unchanged and will take place in September 2020.

What if I have more questions?
Please email [email protected] with any questions.

General Aflac Q&A

Why are there so many problems with this Aflac and the Payroll split direct deposit? Is this a scam?
We understand that the past several months have been a challenge and the answer to your question is no, this is not a scam. However, Aflac has experienced issues with their 3rd party servicer and as a result there has been a lot of confusion and difficulty transitioning the payroll split direct deposit. While most of the Flight Attendants haven’t had any problems there have been several hiccups. Aflac continues to work on their process and systems to remedy these issues. Please be patient with them as they try to correct all errors and simultaneously process claims. If you are having issues please send an email to [email protected] and we will direct you to the proper department representative.

When can I enroll?
2019-2020 Annual Open Enrollment begins September 9th, 2019 and runs through September 25th, 2019.

How do I enroll?
- You can self-enroll online HERE
(DUE TO NEW YORK STATE LAW, ALL NEW YORK STATE RESIDENTS MUST ENROLL USING THE ONLINE PORTAL ONLY. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A CALL BACK FROM A SCHEDULER IF YOU BOOK AN APPOINTMENT)
- You can call an enrollment specialist by phone at 877-453-2385
(PLEASE NOTE THIS PHONE NUMBER WILL ONLY BE ACTIVE DURING THE ENROLLMENT DATES SPECIFIED)
- You can schedule an appointment with a specialist to walk you through enrollment. Schedule the appointment HERE.

What’s the last day I can enroll?
If you are active, your last day to enroll is September 25th, 2019. If you’re out and off payroll, you have 30 days from your return to work status to enroll.

What if I miss open enrollment?
If you are currently at work and on active status, you will have to wait until next September to enroll if you miss this open enrollment. If you are out on leave or an IOD, you have 30 days from your first day you return to work to enroll.

When does the coverage begin?
The effective date of coverage for enrollees during the Open Enrollment Period of September 9th – 25th is NOVEMBER 1, 2019.

Is phone enrollment available for residents of New York?
The State of New York has a law that prohibits life insurance companies from soliciting you by phone. Use the self-enrollment portal if you live in the state of New York. Self-Enroll HERE

Does the Group Accident Insurance cover us on the plane?
Yes.

Am I eligible as a retiree?
Unfortunately, the plans are not offered to present retirees at this time. You are able to take the plans with you at retirement at the group rate (*except for Short Term Disability unless you find employment elsewhere within 6 months of retirement in which case you are able to port that policy as well).

If I already have Short Term Disability policies, can I still buy more?
Aflac is a voluntary supplemental policy that pays in ADDITION to any other policy(ies). The payments are made directly to you. (Even in the state of California)

I’ve had Aflac for years. Should I drop that policy and get one of these?
We cannot tell you what to do regarding anything you’ve previously bought or even now. You should seek professional planning advice to answer all of your questions.

Why did they take my deductions early? I thought coverage didn’t start until October or November.
Based upon our needs, Aflac adjusted the coverage dates. Coverage begins the 1st day after the first FULL MONTH of payments. If you signed up and started payroll deductions in January or February, your coverage begins March 1st. If you sign up in March it begins April 1st.

Why can’t I see the prices?
Plans are customized to meet your specific needs. Depending upon your family size as well as other factors, your pricing will vary. Once you have enrolled in the products selected, you will receive a summary sheet as well as a Certificate for every policy.

Can I pay by Credit Card or Bank Draft?
You can only elect to change your payment from split direct deposit once you’ve already been enrolled. You can call Aflac directly to make the change or click here to download the form. Just make sure you delete your profile in PAYROLL so that you don’t pay twice, once you’ve set that up.

It’s really confusing setting up the Payroll Split Direct Deposit, can you please tell me how to do it?
Read the instructions for Payroll Split Direct Deposit.
