6.23.23 – TAKE ACTION! AA Flight Attendants Deserve Better!

One of the open issues in negotiations is the commuter policy. While we have secured some improvements, we still have not reached agreement. With all the base closings and reductions, many Flight Attendants are forced to commute, and management needs to hear from all Flight Attendants that we deserve an improved commuter policy.

6.22.23 – Workers’ Compensation With Long Term Disability And Social Security Disability

This benefit is only available to those who have elected Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage with MetLife. MetLife Short Term Disability does not cover an approved work related injury. Always file your LTD claim as soon as possible to avoid missing the one year filing deadline.

Juneteenth, short for “June Nineteenth”, marks the day when federal troops officially arrived in Galveston, Texas, to end slavery in the United States. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed two and a half years earlier, slavery remained largely unaffected in Texas.

6.16.23 – American Airlines Flight Attendants: Treated Like “Just a Number”

Melanie has been flying with American Airlines for 36 years. A conscientious and organized Flight Attendant, she arrives early to get through security and to her gate on time, every time. Then, her attendance manager (AFSM) emailed Melanie, saying she would be handed a point for being late.

6.12.23 – Personal International Travel and Known Crewmember (KCM)

The Transportation Security Agency (TSA) continues to observe and investigate cases of crewmembers using Known Crewmember (KCM) while on personal travel to international locations. KCM regulations explicitly prohibit use for personal international travel.

6.12.23 – Smoke, Odor or Fume (SOF) Events Response

As of June 3rd, APFA Safety & Security has been conducting outreach to Flight Attendants involved in Cabin Odor or SOF (Smoke, Odor, or Fume) events.

6.11.23 – FAA Reauthorization Bill 2023

One of the “must-pass” bills on Capitol Hill this year is an FAA Reauthorization Bill. Current funding for the FAA expires at the end of September, so for the FAA to be able to operate beyond September, a bill must be passed by the deadline.

6.09.23 – Tell Congress to Reauthorize the Health Coverage Tax Credit

APFA supports the reauthorization of the Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) which expired on 12/31/21. Flight Attendants who lost their pensions during bankruptcy have struggled to afford basic healthcare costs.

Memorial Day began a few years after the Civil War, in 1868. An organization of Union veterans established the holiday, originally called Decoration Day, as a time to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers.

5.19.23 – Pilots Reach Agreement in Principle (AIP)

As reported in the press, Pilots represented by the Allied Pilots Association (APA) reached an agreement in principle with American Airlines management after long fought negotiations. We congratulate APA on reaching an agreement, subject to finalizing language and Pilot ratification.

5.19.23 – Carryover Sequences Presidential Grievance Settlement

APFA is pleased to announce that we have reached a settlement on the Carryover Sequences Presidential Arbitration scheduled for June. This hard-fought settlement provides pay protections that APFA has always believed Flight Attendants qualified for under the JCBA.

5.18.23 – Coverage Needed (CN) Dates – June 2023

Coverage Needed (CN) is a term applied to a day in a bid month that occurs when not enough Flight Attendants bid in PBS to fly on that day. PBS will allow as many Flight Attendants to be off on a particular day (whether it’s a holiday or not) as possible..
