Government Shutdown
The Government shutdown is now the longest is US history. On Friday, many Government employees went without a paycheck. Yet air traffic controllers, TSA agents, NTSB investigators and FAA inspectors are required be at work. These are the workers who help ensure our passengers and our planes are safe. APFA appreciates the tough decisions they have had to make and acknowledges the unjust situation that they have been relegated to. Please offer these workers your sincere thank you.
Last week APFA stood with NATCA and other supporting unions such as APA, AFA-CWA and ALPA at a rally imploring lawmakers to reopen the Government. Several members of Congress spoke out including Reps. Peter DeFazio, Rick Larsen, David Price, Brian Fitzpatrick, Peter King, Katie Hill and Senators Warner and Blumenthal. We cannot sacrifice aviation safety for discussions that should be continuing while the Government is open and operating. In a further step, NATCA has also sued the United States for requiring to workers to show up uncompensated, essentially citing involuntary servitude.
